Star Gazing

This adventure is about gazing at the night sky.

Star Gazing is literally looking at the stars and observing what they do. We have observatories, which are made up go huge telescopes containing huge mirrors that make observing stars much easier. We also have radio telescopes that absorb waves we can not see creating images for us to analyse.

Humans have sent out telescopes like the Hubble Space Telescope, which has been in orbit since 1990 taking detailed pictures of space. It takes more detailed pictures of spaces space is a vacuum whereas on Earth the atmosphere blurs pictures. It is 569km above Earth and completes an orbit of Earth in 97 minutes.

There are very small particles, even smaller than protons. These are called neutrinos and the Super-K Observatory detect these tiny particles. The particles in question are neutrinos. The observatory lies 1km underground containing 50,000 tonnes of water. The neutrinos cause little sparks in the container, which is how we detect them.

Thats it for this adventure, I hope you liked the brief intro, stay tuned for more.
