Christmas

This adventure is a look at Christmas from a Balkan person's point of view.

I am from Bulgaria, but the average person from the Balkans is never fully from one country. Usually, a person is from origins, whether it is Turkish Bulgarian or Bosnian Croatian. In general, Christmas is just another day for us, and the 24 is the bigger day for us. The region that I am from in Bulgaria doesn't really celebrate Christmas for its religious significance, we do not pray, we do not go church, and we do not eat a eucharist before our meal. We just have a big feast. Then we open our presents on the 25 and have another feast before all the adults get drunk on rakija and beer. The 26 is just an extension of the 25 in terms of drinking, and leftovers are finished.

I hope this adventure has been eye-opening for you as I was recently talking to some fellow slav about Christmas and found that the more I learn about Eastern Europe, the more confusing it gets till the next adventure.
