Australia
My first trip to Australia featured visits to Sydney and Melbourne. My first trip was unique in the sense that I literally just met up with friends in Australia, which isn't usually what happens whenever I go anywhere. Usually, it includes me walking around landmarks in European cities and searching for a good cafe to sit down at and talk. This is always followed by a walk down the city centre before a lovely dinner at a local restaurant.
However, Australia was different (It's not just because everything is upside down). I spent 10 days in the land down under, and it was a fantastically peculiar experience. You are so far away from Europe, and you had to stay up until 1 am to watch stuff like Wimbledon as opposed to at lunch. However, Australians are clever as they know this. So they created their own sports and lifestyle, obviously. Even their English is different; it's almost like an entirely different language, to be honest.
The reason I say that my trip was fantastically peculiar is that I was so far away from London, yet I felt like I could have been in the middle of Canary Wharf or Hyde Park. You could tell that the British had colonised them.
If you ever get the opportunity to visit Australia, I highly encourage you to go and immerse yourself in Aussie life and thinking. The people there are friendly, open and proud to be Australian. They are very self-aware of where they come from and how critical it is to them to protect their wildlife, nature and indigenous people.
I will definitely be doing an Australia part 2 and probably 3, but this is my initial response to it all.
